If you want to grow your business, blog readership, Twitter followers or Facebook likes, you do not have to blog a certain number of times a week, include secret SEO words in your tweets or make Facebook your full-time job. Instead …
Share Freely
If you are hiding secrets from your competition or withholding information from clients so they will buy more, you are losing opportunities to connect.
Thank Publicly
If you read a blog post or article that inspired you, thank the author on your blog or social media channel. Directing your readers towards helpful sources doesn’t mean you are directing them away from you.
Receive Gratefully
Say thank you and let people know you appreciate that they work with you, share your work and do great work themselves.
Promote Humbly
Talk about your work and offerings but don’t let sales pages and your desire for financial success diminish your message or overshadow your ability to be helpful.
Help Openly
Answer questions, offer assistance and connect by helping someone.
Post Thoughtfully
Tweeting the same post over and over again can be annoying. Value people’s attentions and deliver information in an easy to consume way that is delivered by invitation instead of interruption.

P.S. I’d love to learn more about you and your business. This short survey will help me deliver the information you need to do better business. If you need help with a new business or project idea, I’d love to work with you.
I love hearing and know there’s a different approach to blogging and social media that is more human and effective too. I love sharing because an article moved me or help me. I still haven’t decided about the ‘right’ number of times to tweet my own articles though! I don’t want to annoy people but I’m not sure once is enough.
Excellent & sound advice, Courtney. Helping people and establishing a connection with others is a great way to move not only yourself forward, but others, as well.
Great advice and advice that I think applies to most any situation. Give of yourself without asking. Be authentic in the giving. And people will naturally want to give back to you — even more so when you actually make a request.
Great to know I”m on the right track, anything else just does’t work for me. Loved this, ciao lisa x
