Maybe it’s time to put an end to playing “catch up” because we always lose that game. Today, before I emptied the dishwasher and the washing machine, and attempted to empty my inbox, I reminded myself that if catching up worked, I’d be caught up by now. What’s the hurry and what do I win by being all caught up?
I used to spend weekends catching up for the week, spending extra time working, skimping on sleep only to have to rinse and repeat the following weekend. Even though I still catch myself catching up from time to time, for the most part, I let things happen on their own time. I don’t measure my worth by what gets done and what doesn’t.
Instead of getting all caught up this weekend, I’m taking baths, baking these, reading more fiction (all the books on her list), and slowing wayyyyy down.
If you thought that maybe you’d use quarantine to catch up, consider that you are juggling even more than you were before. Just because you are home doesn’t mean you are home on a regular weekend. You’ve got more on your mind and your heart. Don’t overload your schedule in an attempt to catch up.
Take all the time you need.
