Weekend Wisdom: Big change is the result of hundreds of tiny steps and they all matter.
I got mad about making dinner this week.
In case you thought I was calm and sweet and wonderful to be around all the time because I simplified my life, I’m not. On Wednesday night, after the eleven millionth time making dinner since March, I got really mad about it. I wanted to stomp my feet and cry because I was cooking instead of flying to New York to eat in Koreatown with dear friends or going out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant around the corner.
I let it all get to me.
It’s possible I was just hungry because I felt better after we had dinner. More than likely though, it was a bunch of pent up pandemic rage that had to come out. Now it’s out. I feel better, but we are ordering in tonight.
Normally, this is the part of the story where I tell you … I know how good I have it. I’m lucky. These aren’t big problems.
Instead, I’ll say that I felt the way I felt and you can feel the way you feel too without then feeling guilty for feeling bad. Just acknowledge that the thing that set your rage/sadness/anger/frustration in motion wasn’t likely the thing that you feel rage, sadness, anger or frustration about.
