The next season of capsule wardrobe challenge Project 333 is right around the corner. It’s been almost 7 years since I started dressing with 33 items every 3 months and one thing I discovered right from the start is that this challenge isn’t that challenging. And it’s not just me. I hear the same thing from other people, especially people who were really nervous to give it a try.
If you want to conquer closet chaos, refine your wardrobe, or simply find out what it would feel like to live with a little less, I’d like to invite you to join me for the next three months. There will be fewer items in your closet, but you’ll have so much more of the following 5 things.
Capsule Wardrobe Challenge: 5 Things You’ll Gain by Dressing with Less
A commitment to Project 333 isn’t just a commitment to dress with less, but also an invitation to call a full stop to shopping for 3 months. Even if you don’t think you spend much on shoes, clothing, accessories, or jewelry, you may be surprised how those little (and big) purchases add up.
Think about how much time you spent last month shopping in stores or online. How much time did you spend trying on different outfits from your current collection? Now add in the time you spend looking at emails from retailers, or thinking about a past or future purchase. For the next 3 months, you get all that time back.
Even though you won’t get rid of the excess right away, it will be out of sight. You’ll gain physical space in your immediate surroundings and mental space by clearing out the clutter. Simplicity is contagious. Once you discover the benefits of less in the closet, you’ll be curious about owning less in the rest of your home and create even more space.
Once you’ve selected your 33 items, you don’t have to think much about what to wear for the next 3 months. You won’t have to worry about what’s on sale, what you need to buy, or what’s missing from your closet. By reducing those decisions, you can consider what really matters to you and have more clarity throughout the day.
A closet full of clothes that don’t fit, things you paid too much for, and items you don’t wear weighs on you every time you are looking for something to wear. With only your favorite things hanging in your closet, you’ll experience freedom from the guilt and weight of the excess items you currently face every morning.
Before you dismiss this because you think it will be too hard or too easy or if you think you have too much, have too little, think it’s silly, or think you aren’t ready, take a step back and ask yourself, “why not?” Consider the benefits and remember the challenge is only 3 months long.
Tens of thousands of people from around the world have discovered the benefits of dressing with less by trying Project 333. If you’d like to document your 3 month challenge for extra accountability and connection, blog about it or share before and after pics on Instagram. Please use hashtag #Project333 and tag me @bemorewithless when you share your blog posts on social media.
If you’re curious …
Here are the capsule wardrobe challenge rules.
This is the course.
The most important observation I’ve made over the last 7 years is that in the end this capsule wardrobe challenge has very little to do with fashion or clothes. It’s more about learning what’s important to you, and how you want to spend your time. The lessons you’ll walk away after the capsule wardrobe challenge aren’t about what to wear but instead … how to live.
