Weekend Wisdom: When you wake up, instead of mentally running through your to-do list, consider the possibility that the day holds.

I’ve been thinking about these words from Rumi lately, “When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it.”
I included this poem in my book, Gentle too. I’ve done a lot of running around after what I think I want, striving to have something, and proving I deserve it. It’s exhausting. Simplifying has not only helped me appreciate what I have and remind me that when I want “more” it’s time for self-reflection and a pause. It’s in that pause (if I sit in my own place of patience) that I discover what I really want.
