When you think about what it means to live simply, the first thing that may come to mind is decluttering. I agree that decluttering is a great place to start. When you clear up what’s around you, it gives you more attention to work on what’s inside of you.
That doesn’t mean you have to be completely decluttered to make progress on some of the internal stuff. Working on your insides for awhile may even give you clarity on what you really want and need in your life and make it easier to let go of other stuff.
8 Powerful Reminders To Help You Live Simply
1.
It might be impossible to not care at all about what others think, but even caring a little less will give you room to consider what you want for your life. Then you can unapologetically do what is best for you.
2.
When I feel the need to control something or manage things better, I take a deep breath and check in with my heart.
Then I listen.
Then I trust.
99% of the time all of the things I want to manage or control are not mine to manage or control.
PS I often get caught up in the control/manage game before I remember to come back to myself. Will keep practicing. ❤️

If you have trouble saying “no” or “no thanks” without explanation …
Practice by saying, “No thanks, I’ll be protecting my (time/energy/mental health/sleep/or whatever you are protecting) this weekend.” You are allowed to protect these things. You saying it out loud will not only reinforce your priorities to you, it may inspire someone else to honor their own priorities too.

7.
I love this meditation. When you are scattered, anxious or unclear, sit quietly with these words.
May you be free.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May you be loved.
May you live with ease.
Say it for yourself. Say it for someone you love. Say it for someone you struggle to love. Say it for all beings. Repeat forever.
8.
What if you bottled up all of the energy and attention you spend proving that you are right and decided just to be real instead? That’s living simply.
You may not connect with all of these reminders, but if one resonates with you, write it down. The next time you are feeling like living simply is out of reach, revisit the words you wrote down and use them to help you create momentum and inspiration.
