Weekend Wisdom: Feeling guilty for taking care of yourself is not taking care of yourself.
I’m not organized but my spices are.
I’ve been pretty open about the fact that I am not very organized. That’s why living with less works so well for me. Less to clean, less to find, less to sort, less to distract me … less is best.
That said, I cook a lot and so I have a lot of spices. For the longest time, they lived on a rotating platform. We tried to organize and arrange and sort and they always got messy again. Totally my fault. I’m not built to keep so many things where they belong.
When I looked at the 50 or so bottles and jars, I recognized that the same way we use 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time, the same held true with my spices. On a daily basis, I use salt, pepper, olive oil, crushed red pepper and fresh thyme. The rest of them are for special recipes or just a little something extra once or twice a week.
I narrowed it down to 12 favs and hid the rest. You can see the before and after video here. And since I know you’ll ask, here’s where I got the jars and this is where I found the labels.
I had to remind myself (again), less is best.
