Weekend Wisdom: When you eliminate physical clutter, mental clutter goes with it.
Simple pleasures.
Simple pleasures are usually the ordinary things. Sometimes we forget to see them as a pleasure. For example, my morning coffee is a whole thing. It’s not just a cup of fuel to get me going, and it doesn’t happen as I’m rushing out the door or in the middle of 500 things.
Instead, it’s a simple pleasure that gets the attention it deserves. I get my favorite cup, make the coffee, and either start some music or call my sister. She lives in Germany so she has her afternoon coffee while I have my morning coffee. It’s a pleasure I give myself before I check anything off my to do list. I may not have even brushed my hair before I’m indulging and filling my cup, literally and figuratively. My other simple pleasures include a walk around the neighborhood, listening to a podcast about a scam artist, or journaling. Simple pleasures aren’t the things we have to do, they are things we want to do.
Prioritizing simple pleasures and other tiny moments that invite you to be present into your life allow you to enjoy your life every single day. When we withhold simple pleasures in the name of not getting enough done, or telling ourselves other ways we don’t deserve them, we suffer unnecessarily. We may miss out on the inspiration and motivation a simple pleasure provides or get lost in our to-dos but as we’ve established, there will always be more to do. Let’s create more opportunities to enjoy, get present and show up for our lives. P.S. I hope Weekend Favorites is a simple pleasure for you.
