Weekend Wisdom: Holding onto stuff and clutter is harder than letting it go. You have to hold on every day, but you only let go of it once.
Less isn’t nothing.
I made this ornament with my mom in the 1970s. Would a good minimalist save this little piece of childhood artwork/holiday memory? Maybe not. Does that matter to me? Not really. I dress with 33 items or less, burn or shred my journals and live a clutter-free, debt-free life. I work for myself, spend lots of time alone and save a few Christmas ornaments I made as a child and some that my child made with me when she was a child. Living a simple life has never been my intention. Simplifying so that I can show up for my life is what I care about. Minimalism is the tool not the goal. That means “less” looks different for everyone which means you can’t do it wrong. Simplify in a way that allows you to show up for the life you want. Use minimalism as inspiration to make room for you, your family, your art, your work and your favorite things. Simplicity is not a sacrifice. It’s a gift and an honor to be discerning about what you want in your life. I have no interest in owning the least amount of things for the sake of owning the least amount of things. If that makes me a bad minimalist, that’s ok with me.
