Weekend Wisdom: Going to bed earlier is how grown-ups sleep in. – Laura Vanderkam
Goodbyes are hard.
Last week we said goodbye to our 17-year old cat Wilbur. When we adopted him back in 2005, we kept the name his foster parent gave him. They named him Wilbur after the pig in Charlotte’s Web because of his healthy appetite. Losing him has been harder than I thought. Since I work from home, I probably spent more time with Wilbur than anybody else. He joined most of my coaching calls, was my audience when I practiced a presentation or read something out loud and often participated in podcast recordings with his snoring. We watched movies and meditated together and he lived up to his namesake and was always excited for treats and meals.
At the end, just like when we lost our dog Guinness, the vet tech asked if we wanted a commemorative paw print. I declined as I thought about the paw prints that are all over my life; on my furniture, my floors, my shoes, everywhere else. No matter how much I clean, I’ll be finding paw prints for many months to come. And when they fade or wash away, those paw prints are all over my heart.
