How to Create a Meaningful Morning Routine

I wasn’t always an early riser, and there are still days I choose to sleep in until seven or eight, but it’s rare. Usually I wake up and start my day before the sun comes up. When I am consistently practicing a morning routine, waking up early is even easier. I look forward to waking slowly with intention and purpose.

My morning routine changes from season to season, but typically it includes a combination of meditation and yoga, and sometimes walking and writing. Dedicating a block of time to actions that heal my body, calm my mind and inspire creativity first thing in the morning informs my day in a really positive way.

I think everyone deserves a morning routine, (early riser or not) so I made this Microcourse for you.

Before I tell you about this very first Microcourse, I should tell you what a Microcourse is and why I think they are important.

A Microcourse requires:

  • micro-schedule: learn something new in a week or less
  • micro-investment: always less than $20 (and sometimes less than $10)
  • micro-inbox commitment: all course material delivered in one folder via one click download

A Microcourse delivers:

  • mega-impact: each Microcourse presents the opportunity for awesome improvements in life, love, and/or health when put into practice.

I developed the Microcourse concept to help support this website in lieu of advertising or other alternatives. I understand that time, attention and money are finite resources and I don’t want to take advantage of yours. A Microcourse will always offer more for less so you can continue to be more with less.

What is included in the Microcourse

9 Lessons

  1. Welcome and Getting Started
  2. Day One: Why & How
  3. Day Two: Actually Beginning
  4. Day Three: Choosing Activities
  5. Day Four: Always Before Email
  6. Day Five: Habit Stacking
  7. Day Six: Road Blocks
  8. Day Seven: And Beyond
  9. F.A.Q.

Each lesson will have new instructions and information to help you on your journey to develop a meaningful morning routine.

Also included:

  • Audio welcome message
  • Video recording about my morning routine
  • Awesome playlist to use for your morning routine

The material includes everything you need to know to create your own morning routine and put the lessons into action.

The material does not include excessive links, fluff or impossible tasks. Instead, a Microcourse delivers exactly what you need to know in an easy to access, affordable program. Once you purchase the course, it’s yours forever. There is no expiration date or limit on how many times you can review and implement the material.

“Imperfect action beats perfect inaction every time” – Harry Truman

The most important part of each Microcourse is closing the gap between awareness and action. The course material will increase your awareness of the importance of a morning routine and how to develop one that is meaningful in your life. Delivering that information is my responsibility. The action part is your responsibility. This will only work if you implement the recommendations. Each day will have the information you need for awareness plus a special daily action step section.

Courtney, thanks for creating this micro course (I love the concept!). I will definitely purchase it. I love getting up earlier each day, and I have a pretty good routine already, which I discuss on my own site, but new ideas are beautiful! Thanks for this.

  2. Courtney Carver says

Thanks Tony! I am really excited about this course. A morning routine has been so powerful in my life.

  3. says

Courtney, this is one of my intentions for this year. I normally do rise early, but I am not making the most of my early morning hours. I’d like to start the day off right so I’m working more efficiently, relaxing more peacefully, and maintaining my energy to try new things in our travels. Thanks for putting this out – and for explaining the concept of a microcourse so clearly.

  4. says

Sounds great! I need to get out of the drink coffee, read paper, hover over the computer morning routine. I just signed up.

  5. Jill says

This couldn’t come at a better time. I will definitely be signing up. I have the hardest time getting up in the morning on days that I work. I really crave a morning routine to help me start the day of right.

  6. says

    What a great idea!

I’m curious – does your course offer suggestions for actually being able to wake up early enough to have a morning routine??

    • Courtney Carver says

yes, but that isn’t the focus. In my opinion, the best way to wake earlier is to do it a few minutes at a time. For instance if you always get up at 7, wake at 6:55 for a week, and then 6:50.

  7. Marina says

This course is something that I’m looking for a long time! Did you accept paypal balance as payment? I just need your account e-mail to send the money. Thank you!

    • Courtney Carver says

Marina, If you click on the Add to Cart button above, you can pay via paypal. Email me if you have any issues and I can help further.

  8. says

Thanks so much for what looks like a wonderful course. I have downloaded the content but cannot seem to find the audio welcome message or the video recording. Do they come at a later stage or am I just not looking in the right place. Cheers, Kylie

    • Courtney Carver says

Hi Kylie, The audio message is a link in the 1st PDF and you can link to the video in the 2nd PDF. Email me if you have any trouble finding them.

  9. says

i love the idea but not the idea of having to pay. even a little can mean some may miss out. i love what you say and teach. i have followed you since the 2nd season of the 333 project. the journey has been worth it.

Thanks for creating this micro-course, which I just purchased. While I look forward to the idea of the meaningful morning routine, the main reason I purchased it is because you are putting your beliefs into practice–walking the walk and talking the talk of having less stuff. As a blogger myself, I read many blogs, and I get a bit disheartened whenever I see a so-called “minimalist” or “non-consumerist” blog that is featuring products to buy. While I fully understand the monetary need to support the blog, it all seems counter-intuitive to me to talk about having less stuff, and then advertise more stuff. So thank you, Courtney, for being true to who you are and what you write about. I wish you much success with this concept.

    • Courtney Carver says

Joy, Thanks so much for your support, kind words and understanding. It really means so much to me.

  11. Mari says

I would LOVE to take this micro-course. The problem: I gave up spending for Lent. Please notify me when the course will be available again.

  12. dawn says

I love getting up early and enjoying the quiet time before the hustle of kids and the day start. My routine is just my hot tea and sitting down to emails and favorite blogs. I think your class would be better for me and give me more peace and energy for the day.

So glad to see you on Ali’s blog, going to poke around and sign up for your emails. Thanks so much for this wonderful class!

    • Courtney Carver says

It was my pleasure to be on Ali’s blog. I love her and her work! Glad you are looking around. Thank you!

  13. Lynne says

Can you please help? I received a paypal confirmation of my morning routine course, however I cannot download. Error: safari cannot download. I cannot find your email address on your website, so I am forced to send this comment. Thank you for your assistance so I can improve my mornings.

  14. Marilyn Quinn says

Courtney I ordered this course on Feb 18 and for some reason I still do not have the material. I hope you can tell me what I need to do to get it.

    • Courtney Carver says

Hi Marilyn, I’ve received your email and responded a few times. Please check your spam folder. If it’s not there, let me know! ;)

      • Marilyn Quinn says

Courtney is there a way I can contact you other than this comment. I have checked my spam and everything I still have nothing. My e-mail address is Sorry to be such s problem.

        • Courtney Carver says

          Hi Marilyn,

I’ve emailed you several times from 2 different email addresses with and without attachments. At this point, the only way I can think to get you the course is through another email address or a dropbox account.

If that won’t work, I’d be happy to send you a refund.

So sorry we are having such technical issues. It’s really unusual.

any help for my type of schedules??

  15. says

This sounds wonderful Courtney. However, here’s my problem. I’m already an early morning riser UNLESS I plan to get up early. Then I’m awake ALL night thinking about having a plan for the morning and exhausted all day. Hopeless? (BTW: love your blog :-)

    Hi Courtney,

thanks for setting up this micro course. I love your idea of small increments every week. This makes it easy to start small and to stack up gradually week by week.

I think, all your instructions are easy to follow and will yield lots of benefits if implemented.

I also admire the flexibility of the morning routine you suggest. This way I really can chose what is most important and beneficial for me.

Thanks again and all my best wishes to you and all your readers!

  18. Ruta says

    How are you !
I made payment today by paypal which is linked to my bank account. It gave me a message that the payment is still pending. So after the payment clears, will I get the microcourse in my inbox?

    • Courtney Carver says

I do see the comments, but usually only comment on current posts. (but will answer questions when they come up)

  19. Robyn J. says

I just found this! I have been wanting to create a morning routine and to be perfectly honest…I’d rather sleep! I have a SUPA BUSY schedule, Mama, full-time librarian teacher, three kids, full, fun life so I get out of bed at the last possible second. My intention is to shift and create time within my day for soul-enhancing activities. To do this, I feel that morning would be best, if I had the gumption to get up and go. Does this offering identify how to release such blocks as “I want to but….I have such an aversion”. Now that I think about it, exercise probably goes hand in hand with this!

  20. says

This is very intriguing. I’m up at 5:00am most days to beat the traffic into work. Somehow, my entire day passes, and I’ve not managed to make time to exercise, do yoga, etc. Maybe this is the course I’ve been looking for!

  21. Michelle says

Thanks so much; I really need the motivation and accountability. Am considering doing a phone consult with you – but first would like to try the course. Before purchasing, would like to know about how much time I will need to set aside each day to get through it – in order to decide a start date……….or once you send, I suppose I can start any day? Love your heart and mind!

  22. Isaac Bohannon says

I’d like to purchase this for a friend who needs a pick-me-up as she’s going through a divorce. Can I make a gift purchase?

    • Courtney Carver says

Of course Isaac. That’s very kind. I’m emailing you now with instructions.
