Editor’s note: This is a guest post by Monica Schrock from Bare Bones Body Care. I am not affiliated with Monica’s business, but love her work.
My name is Monica and I like to keep things simple. Well, at least the things I can control. I’ve participated in Project 333 twice now and much to my splendor, my wardrobe has dwindled significantly. More than my wardrobe, my problem area was always my skin.
When I was younger, my skin started to react to the mainstream skin care brands and I was forced to switch to the “all natural” options available. I had an environmental themed blog for a few years and eventually started to research what chemicals were harmful to me. There were a few statistics that really hit home for me as well, the most shocking one being that the European Union has banned 1,100 chemicals from personal care products, and the U.S. has only banned 10.
That didn’t make much sense to me and really fueled my fire to make a change to this industry. The products we use every day are the most important when it comes to toxins, not the ones we just use every once in a while. If we put toxic chemicals on our skin every day, our body can’t recover from that poison. So in order to know exactly what I was getting, I started making my own, and Bare Bones Body Care was born.
Bare Bones is about using only ingredients that will make your skin the happiest skin in all the land. Minimalism is the name of the game; most of the products have less than 5 ingredients, making each more important and beneficial to the balance and health of your delicate epidermis. I use a lot of raw butters and oils, mostly Shea butter, Cocoa butter and coconut oil. Those are my big three and the benefits are endless.
- Shea butter reduces the appearance of fine lines and eases irritated skin from conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and sunburn.
- Cocoa butter creates a barrier between your skin and the harsh environmental elements and allows your skin to retain moisture.
- Coconut oil is packed with antioxidants; along with the medium chain fatty acids that actually help build cells rather than destroy them.
Long story short, the Bare Bones moisturizer is an anti-aging powerhouse! Some elements are made from scratch, and others are sourced from organic and/or local suppliers. All products are vegan and not tested on animals. No dirty secrets or skeletons in the closet, just the good stuff, for both men and women alike.
My goal in life is to give everyone the opportunity to have skin care that is simple and healthy for his or her body, at a price that gives him or her no reason to have to settle for chemicals.
